US Nursing: Tennessee
Nurses will find Tennessee to be an exotic mix blend of Southern passion and Midwest friendliness. The state has a spirit of music imbued into it. Indeed some of the world’s most musically articulate artists reside here. Notable centres are predictably Nashville and Memphis, famous stars include Elvis Presley and Dolly Parton to mention just two.
Music, specifically country and bluegrass, permeates the state and nurses would be well advised to soak up a bit of this culture. Nearly everyone comes to Tennessee for the music. The blues and rock scene emanates principally from Memphis, the birthplace of Elvis and Graceland continues to be a magnet to his fans. Outdoor recreation is to be found in centres such as Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Pigeon Forge.
The countryside of Tennessee is dramatic and seductive. Eastwards, the state is covered by the foothills of the Appalachians and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Water courses abound in all parts of the state with river and lakes featuring almost all the time. Tourism is a major component of the local economy.
