US Nursing: Georgia
East of the lengthy Mississippi River our international nurses will find Georgia a state of extremes both geographically and culturally: characterful villages and town merge seamless with well structured urban conurbations. Many with dynamic progressive economies, a positive outlook and generous spirit.
After Texas it is the fastest growing economy in the United States. Its geography embraces well irrigated mountains to the north and eastwards fertile coastal marshlands teeming with wildlife. Georgia is known as the Peach State and Atlanta is the state’s capital and most populous city.
Nurses will discover that their patients have diverse cultural origins. The colonial settlement of large numbers of Scottish American, English American and Scotch-Irish Americans prevails in the mountains and piedmont. To the east and in the coastal settlements, English Americans and African Americans have strongly influenced the state’s culture in food, language and music.
