Connecticut’s largest industry is finance and specifically insurance which is administered almost exclusively from Hartford in the centre of the state.
Manufacturing is a key contributor to the financial wellbeing of the state. It is dominated by the United Technologies Corporation and the Lockheed Martin subsidiary Sikorsky Aircraft.
The agricultural sector also features as an important employer and income contributor.
Nurses will read that Connecticut is the richest state in the U.S., as measured by per capita income.
Today, Connecticut factories produce weapons, sewing machines, jet engines, helicopters, motors, hardware and tools, cutlery, clocks, locks, silverware, and submarines. Hartford has the oldest U.S. newspaper still being published the Hartford Courant, established 1764.
