The University of North Carolina Hospitals, a 700+ bed Level 1 teaching and trauma center is located on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the nation's first state university. The UNC Healthcare system is a non-profit health care system owned by the State of North Carolina. |

- North Carolina Children's Hospital (opened in 2002)
- North Carolina Women's Hospital (opened in 2002)
- North Carolina Neurosciences Hospital
- North Carolina Cancer Hospital (soon to be built and will encompass the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of a small number of NIH designated centers in the US.)
