Sea Freight

Moving to the USA for your US nursing job will probably mean moving your things in a container.

At 20ft or 40ft in length, the steel and water resistant containers usually provide the best and most cost efficient option. It is normally charged on volume and not weight. If you take a whole container then this is loaded  at your home and then sealed for onward carriage to the USA

Take a rough inventory of the total cubic footage of your things and then decide what kind of container service is required:

By taking a full container load then this is normally loaded outside your home and then sealed for transportation. The container would  then remain unopened until it arrived at your new house near your US nursing job location.

If you do not have sufficient possessions when to fill a whole container then they will go in a groupage container which you will share with someone else. Not that all the boxes and other items are clearly marked and slip ups are rare. Occasionally this option can take longer as they may have to wait for a suitable available container.
But certainly this is the most cost effective way for smaller households.
For items that you may need urgently then the speediest option is naturally air freight. However if your US nurse job location to is inland and not near a port then it can occasionally work out to be just as cost effective. Items are export packed as with items going into a container but these are securely packed into enclosed airline pallets often called igloos. These are then placed into the cargo hold of either dedicated freight aircrafts or sometimes in the hold of a passenger aircraft.

Freight moving by sea to the USA from the UK and Europe will take between 4 and 6 weeks
