Removal Company Requirements

In the event that your new US nursing career means a major house removal then the following should be born in mind

Contacting the removal company
As soon as Adevia has let you know that all your documents are in order and the
Green Card is imminent you should begin to carefully screen potential removal companies.  It is adviseable to use any word of mouth reccomendations and target receiving at least three quotes.
In the event that you have a significant amount of possessions to take it is likely that a representative from the company will want to visit to make sure that everything is in order and that everything can be loaded up with the minimum of fuss. B e advised that sometimes these people can be very rigorous looking in cupboards, outhouses etc. It is often surprising number of things that can be overlooked in the excitement of emigrating to the USA. Everything that you are taking must be meticulously listed on an inventory form.

To avoid complication make sure that the information that you give to each quoting company is the same. If not, then the quotes will vary significantly.

Key Questions  
Mindful that these people will be looking after a significant part of your personal wealth you have to be assured of their competency.
Ask your removal company as many questions as you can, after all you are trusting these people with your prize possessions.
Some questions that can be asked are as follows:

Questions to ask:
• What kind of insurance is available and what exactly does it cover.
• Has the company a long trading history
• What experience does it have of moving belongings to the USA
• What time will the van/truck arrive? How long will they need to load everything
• Do they have good references? .
• Moving to the USA will inevitably mean that your possessions will be in storage at some point, either at the port or in the company’s own warehouse not shipped immediately where will they be stored? You will need to know if these locations have good security
• Is the removal company fully conversant all the forms that have to be filled in to move your possessions through USA customs
• Is the quote inclusive of all charges
• It is unlikely that your electrical goods will work in the USA and you will have to buy adaptor plugs. An abundance of these are available at international airports

Other
• What is road access like to your house
• Are the new owners moving into your old house on the same day?
• What time will they arrive?
• Do you require a packing service?
• If not will you require cartons?
• Do you require storage?

With regard to packing it is quite normal that you will want to pack everything yourself. Be aware however that if this is the case then it may not be covered by the insurance. As a minimum leave the boxes open so that the removal team can inspect and ensure that breakables are correctly wrapped up in foam, bubble wrap etc.  Note that if you are set on doing this yourself it can turn out to be a false economy as the removal team has all the materials to hand and will have the experience to do it quickly and efficiently
